About the Rules Lawyers:

We are here to write about our hobby:

Rules lawyers are, by nature, creatures of the written word.  At our best we closely read the text of the games we play and learn to place each rule in context within the system to create a cohesive gaming experience.  The Rules Lawyers don’t just use the rules to control the game, we should strive to understand what the author intended – best determined from the rule as written – to see the mechanism of the rules working together.  The rules of a well designed game fold into one another, working in harmony to establish a theme and structure that informs the types of stories the game can tell.

Rules Lawyer Adam:

Adam is an attorney practicing in Chicago.  He’s also an avid gamer with a background in all things Dungeons and Dragons, as well as dabbling in the Storyteller System, Minds Eye Theatre, Shadowrun, The Star Wars Roleplaying Game (WEG and FFG versions) and a dozen other tabletop games.

A recovering Settlers of Catan addict, Adam has diversified his interest in all kinds of board games, from train games (if you’re into Euro-rails, we should meet up) to party games, poker and occasionally chess.

Adam started playing video games with an Atari 2600 and has never put the controller down since.  He got started in massively multiplayer online games before they went 3d, starting with Kingdoms of Drakkar and the original Neverwinter Nights AOL portal game (OGS represent).

With more than 25 years of gaming “experience” Adam has spent more time gaming than any other activity with the possible exception of sleeping.  Time well spent.
